Honey Bunches of Oats from Scratch Recipe

Ingredients:

For the granola:

  • 3 cups of old-fashioned oats

  • 1 cup of almonds, chopped (or any nuts of your choice)

  • 1/2 cup of honey

  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup of vegetable oil

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon

For the bunches:

  • 1/2 cup of uncooked quinoa

  • 1/2 cup of whole grain wheat flakes

  • 1/4 cup of honey

  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar

  • 2 tablespoons of water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, mix together the oats and chopped almonds.

  3. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the honey, brown sugar, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, salt, and cinnamon. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.

  4. Pour the honey mixture over the oats and almonds, ensuring everything is well coated.

  5. Spread the mixture evenly onto the prepared baking sheet.

  6. Bake for about 30-35 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes, until the granola is golden brown.

  7. While the granola is baking, prepare the bunches. In a bowl, mix together the quinoa and wheat flakes.

  8. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the honey, brown sugar, and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.

  9. Pour the honey mixture over the quinoa and wheat flakes, making sure they are well coated.

  10. Spread this mixture onto a separate baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  11. Once the granola is done, reduce the oven temperature to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) and bake the bunches for about 10-15 minutes, until they are crispy and golden.

  12. Let both the granola and the bunches cool completely. They will get crunchier as they cool.

  13. Once cooled, mix the granola and bunches together in a large bowl.

Store this homemade Honey Bunches of Oats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. Enjoy it with your choice of milk or as a snack on its own.

Note: This is a basic recipe. Feel free to add dried fruits, seeds, or other nuts according to your preference. Always add dried fruits after the granola is baked and cooled to prevent them from becoming too hard or burnt.
