Honey and Onion Syrup Recipe
Ingredients:
1 large onion, thinly sliced
Honey (preferably raw and organic) – enough to cover the onion slices
Directions:
Preparing the Onion: Clean the onion and thinly slice it. You don't have to peel the onion if you wash it well, but most people prefer to do so. Place the onion slices in a clean jar.
Adding Honey: Pour honey over the onion slices until they're completely covered. Make sure to coat all of the onion slices thoroughly.
Steeping: Close the jar's lid tightly and let the mixture sit for about 12-24 hours. As time passes, the onion will release its juice, and the mixture will become more liquid.
Straining: After the steeping process, strain out the onion pieces so you're left with only the liquid in the jar. This is your honey-onion syrup.
Usage: For adults, take 1-2 tablespoons of the syrup as needed for cough or sore throat. For children, reduce the amount to 1 teaspoon, but always consult with a pediatrician before giving any homemade remedies to children.
Storage: Store the syrup in the refrigerator. It should last for up to a month. Always check for any signs of spoilage before using.
While honey and onion syrup might help soothe a sore throat or cough, it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional if you or someone you're caring for shows signs of a severe illness. Also, never give honey to infants under 12 months old due to the risk of botulism.
